We've all taken a close look at the multi-colored cell phone coverage maps when we're considering cell phone providers, but unfortunately nearly as many of us have found out that the coverage maps don't always tell the whole truth. Google Maps mashup SignalMap tracks user-submitted cell signals based on carriers and locations, giving you a better insight into real world signal expectations for coverage.
SignalMap relies entirely on user-contributed data, meaning that it's still a little sparse on the info. With a little help from the community, though, SignalMap could grow into a very useful site. Given more data, one might assume SignalMap might have to start averaging signal reports to get an accurate view, but this could be a handy research tool to consult before you buy your next service plan.
